‘Working together – learning forever’

December is always an extremely busy month in school and there are lots of dates for your diary.  We hope our pupils enjoy all of the exciting Christmas Events we have organised for this month.

Please note school finishes on Thursday 20th December at the earlier time of 2.30pm and reopens at 9am on Monday 7th January.

Scottish Youth Film Festival

The “Sleekit 7s”(that is the group name chosen by its members )  Maja Ditner, Orlaith Johnston, Colleen Heron, Marli McPhee, Lacey Wright, Eva-Maria Campbell and Emily McKinlay were involved in a lunch time club making movies with Miss Feeney. Their task in the film competition was to make a one minute movie to showcase ‘What Scotland Means to Me ‘as part of the Scottish Youth Film Festival. The winning entry would be commemorated in the film archives of Scotland. There was a massive uptake in the competition with over 500 entries and our pupils were elated to be placed second in the under 12s category. They attended the award ceremony on the 28th of November and were able to meet famous film makers and actors as well as receive a message from Fiona Hyslop the Cabinet Secretary for Culture celebrating all their entries. It was an amazing evening marking the end of an amazing event both within the school and outside.

Christmas Lunch in the Dining Hall on Wednesday 12th December

On this day the dining hall will serve Christmas Lunch.  If your child does not usually have a dining hall lunch they are more than welcome to have one at the cost of £1.90.

Christmas Concerts

As you know our Christmas concerts take place on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of December.  From Tuesday 11th December the remaining tickets will go on sale from the school office for parents to buy extra if they wish. There will be a raffle, organised by our Parent Council, at each of the performances. Please remember that the entrance to the concerts on both days is through the emergency doors at the gym hall and not the front entrance.  The doors will open at 9.15 and 1.15 on each day.  No parent should enter the playground while the children are still in the yard.

Parent Council Discos

There will be two discos organised by our Parent Council on Wednesday 19th December.

P1 – 3: 5.00 – 6.30PM IN SCHOOL HALL

P4 – 7: 7.00 – 8.30 IN SCHOOL HALL.

Tickets are £1.50 and will be on sale on the night of the discos.

There will be a tuck shop on the night which will sell healthy snacks such as water and fruit.

Christmas Parties

Our Christmas parties will be on Wednesday 19th December and children should wear party clothes to school instead of their uniform. A reminder text will go out nearer the time. Our pupils in P1 – 3 will have a visit from Santa on this day.

Parents/Carers in Playgrounds

No parents/carers should enter any of the playgrounds in the mornings. All parents/carers dropping children off in the infant playground should stand at the top gates and not come down to the bottom gate to allow our pupils easy access to the playground. At 3pm parents/carers of pupils in P1 – 3 may stand behind the yellow line in the infant playground.  Parents/carers of pupils in P4 – 7 should stand on the path/grass area at the gates and do not come straight up to the classrooms.  In January pupils from P5a, P5b and P5/6 will exit through the Fire Doors in the upper school yard at the end of the day. No parents should approach the teachers at 3pm.  If you wish to speak with a teacher you can, phone the school, drop in to the office or give your child a note for the class teacher and you will be given a suitable appointment.

Children absent from school

If your child is absent from school you should phone the Glasgow School’s Absence line on the following number: 0141 287 0039.  This is part of new procedures which have been introduced in all schools.

HEAD LICE

Please remember to check your child’s hair on a regular basis to ensure they have not caught head lice.  This will ensure that the spread of lice to another child is minimal.

Nut allergies

As a number of pupils in our school have nut allergies I ask all parents/carers not to give your child a snack containing nuts. Thank you for your cooperation.
