Each pupil has a school homework diary.
Parental co-operation is vital with regard to attendance and time keeping. Good attendance and prompt arrival in school leads to success with schoolwork and generally a child who is happy and well behaved. Section 30 of the 1980 Education Act lays a duty on every parent/carer of a child or young person of ‘school age’ to ensure that their child attends school regularly. Attendance must be recorded twice a day, morning and afternoon. Regulation 7 of The Education (School and Placing Information) (Scotland) Amendment, etc Regulations 1993 requires each child’s absence from school to be recorded in the school register as authorised: i.e. approved by the authority, or unauthorised; i.e. unexplained by the parent/ carer (truancy) or excluded from school. We ask you, therefore, to inform the school by telephone, if your child is going to be absent and to give your child a note on his/her return to school, confirming the reason for absence. The school will phone home if no contact is made by the parent/carer of absent children and children arriving late are asked to sign in for fire safety reasons.
